MALAYSIA UPDATED. Pencak Silat athlete from Terengganu Siti Rahmah Mohd Nasir has been picked to represent the country at the SEA Games in Myanmar next month.
Terengganu Silat Association (PSSNT) secretary, Rani Mustaffa said Siti Rahmah was the gold medal winner in the Class E Puteri silat event in Hanoi, two years ago.
"The coming SEA games championship is her third," he told Bernama, Wednesday.
Rani said Siti Rahmah is the daughter of former Singapore and Terengganu footballer who was well-known in the 1980s, Nasir Jalil.
He said Siti Rahmah was currently undergoing intensive training with the national elite squad at Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur in preparation for the championship.
In another development, three Terengganu silat athletes had been listed to undergo training as back-up for the national team in preparation for the world silat championship in Jakarta next year.
Rani said they were Mahani Bakri, Wan Izaidi Wan Ismail and Razak Razali, who had shown excellent performance at the national silat championship here last month.
He said they were currently placed under coach Mahani Bakri (for women), Shahrul Fahmi and Mohd Fazli Ismail (for men).
Terengganu won three gold medals, five silver and four bronze at the last national silat championship.
